Editorial Note: Information contained
in "Moratticana," indeed in any hypertext document, is by definition and
necessity post-modern, by which is meant here among other things, non-linear,
often-changing, and fluid, odd adjectives to describe a document purportedly
dealing with "fixed history." The most obvious manifestation
of this will be the replacement in many cases of links that will be added
periodically in the place of traditional footnotes. Every effort
will be made to maintain a high level of historical accuracy in these pages;
the information, however, will change from time to time as details require
correction and new information becomes available--as a history of Morattico
is constructed and reconstructed. Thus "Moratticana" is not intended
as a substitute for traditional scholarship in refereed scholarly journals
or history texts, but rather as an adjunct to it. It is intended
for the use and enjoyment of anyone with a general interest in the history
of Morattico and the surrounding area. The richest sources of
primary information related to Lancaster County can be found in the archives
of the Mary Ball Washington Museum and in the records of the Lancaster
County Courthouse. Comments, additions, and corrections related to "Moratticana"
are welcome.
